The Pharmacy Technician Specialist - Patient Intake is able to function as a certified pharmacy technician within the pharmacy setting to assist pharmacists in identifying that all information is available on a prescription or otherwise documented to dispense a prescription and also verifies and pre-certifies specialty medications to ensure optimal reimbursement from third party payers. This technician educates patients regarding financial obligations and medication assistance programs.
Receive electronically prescribed new or refill prescription requests and verify that information is complete and accurate.
Answer incoming calls and respond to electronic communications.
Works directly with or over the phone with patients in a courteous and efficient manner. This includes notifying patients of payment obligations and assisting with incoming patient phone calls and triaging clinical or customer service issues. Follows up with patients when necessary including managing and resolving patient complaints.
Proactively contact patients to schedule shipment of their medications, which may also involve requesting a new prescription to be sent from the provider's office.
Ensure accurate shipping information is verified with the patient, patient's caregiver or provider's office for all scheduled shipments.
Research required information using available resources to assist patients, team members and providers when necessary. This includes reviewing the patient's copay for accuracy, as well ensuring all necessary copay assistance is billed appropriately and any issues are resolved prior to approving the final claim.
Participates in performance improvement and/or quality improvement initiatives that may involve accreditation from outside organizations
Updates patient/customer information and tracks patient information in necessary software.
Contributes to success of team by supporting other team members with projects and assignments as directed.
Experience & Knowledge:
High School diploma (with emphasis on science, chemistry, biology, and mathematic) or equivalent; knowledge of the metric system preferred. Basic typing skills and/or computer keyboard experience required. Associate or bachelor degree in pharmacy, accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
Required Credentials, License and/or Certifications:
Prior experience with at least 2 years as a pharmacy technician required. Previous employment history should provide an indication that the individual is motivated to perform assigned job responsibilities in an above average manner. Good communication skills are essential. Experience with direct customer service and with health insurance highly desired.
Education/Expertise: Pharmacy Technician national certification required, State of Ohio Pharmacy Tech license required.
