The Biostatistician works closely with the CRC Leadership and supports all phases of the UH Departments research enterprise to ensure scientifically valid research is conducted and that valid conclusions may be drawn. The Biostatistician interacts with trainees of all levels, faculty and staff. Demonstrates a strong understanding of statistical concepts and methodologies, and keep informed on current statistical concepts, methods, techniques and technology. Have a working knowledge of at least one sophisticated statistical software package, such as SAS, R, etc. including graphical presentation. Have a working knowledge of one or more relational database packages, such as RedCap, Access, etc. Have a working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office software such as Excel and PowerPoint. Detail oriented, able to multitask. Work well as part of a team. Help define the study questions and or hypotheses. Determine optimal study design to answer the question. Conduct appropriate sample size calculations and power analyses. Prepare an analysis plan using then most appropriate statistical tests for the study data. Oversee the collection of data to ensure a proper format for analysis. Periodically check data collection during the course of the study to ensure accuracy and documentation. Perform planned analysis with precision and accuracy in a timely manner; develop alternative analysis strategies when changes to planned analyses are needed. Ensure accuracy of written documents describing statistical analysis methodology, results and interpretation.
